CASE STUDY : WEIGHT LIFTING

Warm up  : Do a general warm up of light aerobics for about 8 to 15 minutes and some stretching exercises.

Breathing  :  Do proper breathing. Stick with the rule of exhaling as you exert and inhaling as you relax the muscle. Breathe in as you lower the weight and breathe out as you raise it. Improper breathing could result in fainting or serious injury.

Method     :  Exercise should be performed smoothly and rhythmically. Always fully extend and contract the muscles making sure that all movements are complete. Don’t try spot reduction. Instead work on all muscles of your body and stay symmetrical and in proportion everywhere.

Frequency : Weight training ought to be twice a week. The frequency can be increased once the correct technique is known.

Rest and Nutrition  : Proper sleep is indispensable as it is when you are at rest that the muscles grow and not at the gym. Stop smoking and drinking and adopt a healthy lifestyle. As far as applicable eat four o five meals a day. Two or three meals are simply not enough. Your blood sugar levels get controlled, also you will get the proteins in small amounts throughout the day to support growth and recovery, and most important the enzymes that store fat will be produced in far smaller amounts, making your body store lesser fats. By providing the body with a consistent and frequent supply of calories, its need to store fat is significantly reduced. When you eat infrequently, your body recognizes a famine situation and the enzymes are produced in large quantities to hold onto every calorie consumed in order to store it as fat in preparation for the famine to come. Remember that in each of the five meals , approximately one part should come from fats, two parts from proteins, and three from carbohydrates. Just keep the fat intake down to a low level (do not eliminate fat completely as some fat is necessary to maintain a good health), eat enough protein to support growth and recovery, and carbohydrates proportionate to your energy output. Eat enough protein as muscles need proteins to grow about 0.75-1.3 g per pound of body weight daily. Lots of fibre filled fruits and veggies are great with plenty of water to enhance your looks and health.

Flower therapy   : The Indian flower therapy is different to the Bach  flower therapy which is more widely known. The Indian method has the dew or flower collected in the apparatus, and a preservative like brandy or glycerin added. The whole framework is built upon the notion that water has the memory and hence it can retain the energy received from the flower for a long time. This therapy has nothing to do with the aroma therapy or essential oils. Flower medicine can be used orally or used for external applications. If we know the meaning of the sanskrit word used to describe the particular flower, we will know where it has to be used.

For example :

Sunflower  : Can cheer you if you are depressed.

Cacti          : Helps a person to strive harder; notice how it lives in hard conditions.

Morning creeper  : It is for those who want to feel fresh in the mornings.

Many diseases have their roots in our mind and emotions. In fact some diseases may as well have its roots in our childhood. As the growth of the human body occurs, the transformation occurs at emotional level and the physical change is long lasting. Flower therapy does not over react , it balances any disorder in body. The ancient philosophies need be mentioned as and again : We cannot enjoy total well being unless the mind , body and spirit are balanced. The healing power of flower lies in their ‘energy fields’, which give them their unique healing characteristics. The evidence came to light when in 1940s, a Harold Saxton Burr accidently discovered them around plants and animals. He called these fields bio-electrical or electro-dynamic L-fields. The essences can also be used in agriculture for better growth to warding off pests.

Atmasantulana therapy :   It is derived from the ancient Panchkarma treatment, which refers to the detoxification methods of Ayurveda.

· Snehan & svedan (oil massage & steam bath) allow toxins to be released form the cells  & promotes relaxation of the muscles & the entire body

· Intake of medicated ghee which is absorbed  throughout the body, removing sticky toxins & creating softness & elasticity.

· A special virechan (purgative) medication for the complete cleansing of the gastro-intestinal tract & bowels.

· A medicated oil with a decoction of herbs is given as basti (enema) to clean the colon & bring back the muscle tone.

· Vaman (emetics) is prescribed for specific patients

Ailments set in because of the imbalance in the basic elements– earth, water, air, space & fire. Practice of virtues & spirituality is not to satisfy God but to bring harmony between various elements of your body, mind, & soul for your own health & well being. Spirituality frees you from stresses.  Through naadi pariksha (pulse examination) doctors can detect diseases. The traditional system of naadi-shastra (science of pulse reading) has outscored the other modern equipments of medical diagnosis. Ayurveda is Indian intellectual property. It is not only a medicine, but also a way of life for a healthy body, mind & soul. Crystal therapy, aroma therapy, & magnetic therapy have their own pulse points but none may be effective in isolation. Ayurveda in general and panchkarma in particular hold the answer to most of the human ills. Through panchkarma one can treat almost every ailment. It cleanses the body, purifies the blood, revitalizes the entire system. The ayurvedic concept of diet & food is called the anna yoga. He anna shala at the village is no ordinary kitchen. The food is planned according to the different seasons of the year, considering the vata, pitta, kapha, dosha balance, the maintenance of agni (digestive fire), the six different rasas (tastes) for better interaction & ultimately the seven dhatus form blood to vitality.
